Black Hawk Agri-Business Club Alumni 2015 Update
A Determined ABCA in 2015
With many "firsts" in 2015, it has proven to be an exciting year in which the Agri-Business Club Alumni (ABCA) Board of Directors have been "all in". The mission of the ABCA to build a lasting foundation for the Ag programs at Black Hawk College. ABCA's numerous achievements this year, demonstrate our commitment to the ABCA mission of providing support for Ag programs at Black Hawk College.
The ABCA kicks-off each year with its annual banquet held in January. This event is for members of the ABCA Alumni Association to share memories, contribute and celebrate the current happenings at Black Hawk College. One of the highlights of the banquet is showcasing outstanding alumni by induction into its Agriculture Alumni Hall of Achievement. This year we recognized Jennifer Shike (1998 BHC graduate) with this award of excellence. The evening builds excitement and encourages ABCA alumni to give back to Black Hawk College by funding faculty grants, scholarships, and other various projects.
A significant 2015 highlight for ABCA was to award the first recipient of our student scholarship. Savanna Speckhart, a 2015 graduate who is now attending Kansas State University, was the first recipient of the Future Alumnus Award Scholarship. This was a significant milestone for the Agri-Business Club Alumni Board of Directors, as the endowed scholarship will give back for years to come.
In May, we hosted our first annual ABCA Golf Outing at Kewanee Dunes Golf Club in Kewanee, Illinois. With fundraising being very important to its continued growth, the golf outing was not only a way to raise money, but it was also a way to network and give back within the community.
